2011 Winter Tough Man Competition

For the past 3 years we have called it the STRONGMAN COMPETITION, but the name really does it no justice.

It is really never about who is the strongest.

It is usually about who is the TOUGHEST.

The winners of our competitions are not always the guys who bench the most or squat over 500lbs.

They are usually the ones who just want it the most.

They push their bodies well beyond their known potential in order to beat their competitors.

  • In 2008 it was Vinny Ferrante
  • In 2009 it was Frank Torres
  • In 2010 it was Ted Clohessy

As we all know, it is not just about wanting it the most. You actually have to have some skill.

To win our events, you usually have to have just the right combination of skill, strength, speed, and luck.

2011 Winter Tough Man

This year, since we have 24 contestants and Staten Island is recovering from two feet of snow, I had to get creative.

The competition is taking the form of something similar to March Madness.

There will be head to head competitions where the winner will advance to the next roud and the loser goes home.

The events to be held for each competition will be selected randomly from a deck of cards. Each card represents one of the options listed below.
  1. 295lb barbell hold for time (ACE)
  2. One Arm Cable Hold on Seated Row Machine for time (with Fat Grip)
  3. Broad Jump
  4. Chin Up Hold for time
  5. Jump Rope for Time
  6. One Arm Cable Hold in Lunge Position for time
The competitors for each event will be selected randomly from a hat.

A coin will be flipped to determine which competitor gets to chose if they want to go First or Second.

The structure of the bracket can be seen below.
You will notice that there is no line extending from one round into the next.

The reason for this is that the competitors will be randomly selected each round.

Basically, they do not know who they are going against or what they are doing until a minute before the competition.
